Crisis in Georgia, Quick run down.

During the ninties, Ossetia and Abkhazia try to break away from the Soviet Republic of Georgia.

Georgia retakes them by military force, causeing a cultural clash. The two regions have fought for freedom since.

Modern day: Violence erupts overnight, as Georgia attempts to retake South Ossentia.

Russian backed seperatists fight back.

Russian President Dmitri Medvedev sends 150 armored vehicles with a contingent of troops over the border.

Georgian and Russian forces clash, bombs start flying into T'bilisi, captial of Georgia.

Georgian President has been trying to get Western Support for his troops.

United States, UN, EU, NATO, others call for a cease-fire, and withdrawral of Russian troops from Georgian soil (South Ossentia is not recognized as sovereign by the UN)

Information Warfare attack DDOS severl Ossetian news sites

The Georgian National Bank and Foreign Affairs ministry are hacked, images uploaded of President Mikhail Saakashvili and Hitler.

Bombing and street fighting continues between Seperatist / Russian forces and Georgian soldiers.

Capital of Ossetia, Tskhinvali, suffers major damage, Parliament building burned down, much of the city on fire and evacuated.

The region is now on the brink of war, with Russian reinforcements on the way. I'll update when I learn more, but the news over there is hard to follow, and the US is too pro-Georgia to be entirely accurate.

NASA's Phoenix Lander arrives on Arctic Plain of Mars

NASA's Phoenix Lander has safely reached the martian surface, according to the live feed from JPL's Pasadena facility last night. The lander reported minutes after it's landing via pictures that "the solar arrays needed for the mission's energy supply had unfolded properly, and masts for the stereo camera and weather station had swung into vertical position", NASA stated in an article on their site. Also mentioned in their article is that the lander is equipped with "science instruments to assess whether ice just below the surface ever thaws and whether some chemical ingredients of life are preserved in the icy soil". These are factors critical to the success or failure of any future Human mars landing. NASA TV will be holding a televised press briefing at 11:00 AM PST, or 2:00 PM EST.

Here's a Snippet of a little story I'm working on off and on.

I gazed out the window of the plane. Snow streamed by, lightly falling on the outside of the fuselage as the craft slowed, preparing to land. I turned away, and pocketed the novel in my hand. Another boring business trip, well underway. The pilot came on over the intercom. “Approaching LaGuardia International, arrival in three minutes. Please fasten your seatbelts, and place your seats in the upright, locked position.” Almost there. I paid little notice to the hissing coming from the engine. It burst into flames, shards of glass flying about. A confused cacophony of noise assaulted my hearing. Screaming, fire, sucking air, and the fluttering of a million sheets of paper. I spun about, frantically grabbing for a handhold, groping in the nothingness for safety. A thick smack resounded as a suitcase hit the back of my head, and the world faded to blackness.

Silence. Everything was suddenly calm. I woke up in the midst of the plane's fuselage, staring face down at the floor. I got up, and expected to see the bodies of my fellow passengers. The plane was empty. The luggage, the people, the chaos was gone. All that remained was the plain, ruined hulk, the lonely upholstery, and a smattering of powdered snow on the carpet, where the engine had ripped a hole in the fuselage. I hoisted myself up, using the seat to boost my aching body. Outside was a road, lined by hedgerows and forest. An impenetrable blanket of white fog, preventing one from seeing more than a block ahead of oneself, choked the landscape. I climbed out of the hole, seeing as nobody was here, and my luggage was gone. Carefully I trekked onward, hoping that salvation lay down this lonely stretch of cracked and worn pavement. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Honor is a reputation, a perceived sense of earned respect from others. An honor code, therefore, is a set of ideas designed to govern one's morality and public behavior. Honor is a subjective topic, governed by one's conscience, creed, and life experience. There can't be one set code, as it couldn't apply to everyone.

An honor code, while a splendid idea in theory, is in fact a rather troublesome proposal. Combined with widespread desensitization of the masses, a growing disillusionment with religion and theological belief, mainly for the commitments accompanying such ideals, has greatly changed out perception of reality and what is acceptable. Laws are no longer followed, rules disobeyed. People's inherent distrust of those in power, generally baseless nonsense, has eliminated the ability to easily enforce overall rules.

In the event of such a decree, certain things must be set, harsh penalties instated for outright disobedience. Mere disobedience for the sake of disobedience is stupid, an act comparable to kicking a nest of angry wasps. It should not be tolerated by anyone, much less perpetrated by anyone with some semblance of sentient thought. People will always envy and hate other people, however. Such feelings are the remnants of a past when they were necessary, but now serve as archaic and outdated instinct.

Honesty is crucial to honor. Without it, there can be no honor. Dishonesty rarely serves more than a purpose perceived solely by the perpetrating individual, and usually causes more harm than good. Lying should not be allowed without good, sound reason, as lies are like virii. They spread, from person to person, self-replicating in nature. Lies mutate to combat the truth. Lies can cause incurable damage and unnecessary suffering.

In conclusion, while an outstanding and noble proposition, an honor code will prove very difficult to enact and enforce. Rules will be broken, lines will be crossed to test the willingness to enforce those rules. Waves of people will need to be reprimanded for such indiscretions, as an example to those who might try and follow along. It is imperative, indeed essential, that those in a position to enforce these rules be prepared for this most certain eventuality.

Well, since my new computer is here... and has been... for quite some time... I'll be posting updates off and on for my up and coming Half Life 2 mod, No-Life. Hey all! I just got a new copy of the Excellent PC gaming magazine Games for Windows. It had a feature on free PC games. After skimming, I'm here to bring you some of the excellent ones.

First off, The free FPS, Sauerbraten.
Sauer braten is a Doom 2 style, fast paced FPS. It comes with the engine, and a map editor, so you can create your own maps and even games running this engine. It multi and single player, and features about eight or nine weapons. (including your fists. Yay FPS fist.... ing!) Think of it as doom 2, mixed with a cup of free, a dash of awesome, a healthy dose of sea-sickness, a spoonful of 3d, all wrapped up in a greasy,
blood dripping, heavy metal laden oozing gorefest,
that's smothered with w007sauce. Perfect for the stingy, creative gamer, and downloadable here.
(there's even a Linux version =^_^=)

You can play as US army special forces or the Opfor (opposing force in military jargon, or insurgents in lamen's terms.) with an array of weapons, ranging from an AK-47 or M4A1 you can customize to your tastes (once you complete a difficult series of training missions), An RPG-7 Rocket Porppeled Grenade Launcher, and many others. This is a great, free massivley multiplayer FPS, it looks pretty good, the engine runs alright on an okay machine, and it's plenty fun. You can send out to the Army for a copy on CD or DVD (or run over to your local recruiter and beg) or you can wait for an epic download here.

Next on the line, a tribute to that old vector graphic'd, awesomely cool game that slapped you in a "realistic" virtual X-wing fighter cockpit. Star Wars brought that old concept to life with updated textures, new sounds (from the movies =D) and DirectX 9 driven gameplay. Only requiring a 233 MHZ processor, 32 megabytes of HD space, and DirectX 9, this game is obviously not state of the art, but still, it brings back memories of the so-called "good old days". You can snatch it up here.

Last for today, a browser based goody I've mentioned before. It's not on GFW's list, but I believe it deserves honorable mention. A relaxing little distraction from the guys a secretlevel. The submarine game. No action here, but you get to command a little submarine with your computer, while listening to relaxing music. I like it a lot, personally. play it here.

A movie made in 1984, It is about a game this kid plays this game,and he beats the record, then finds out it was a recruiting tool for an alien race in need of military help. Here we have the trailer for a movie i want to see, Aeon Flux. I think i might preorder the dvd in a couple months. I reformatted my comp's hard drive, so i need to install everything again. oh well. at least now i am on a decent OS, Win 2000. Oh, and one more thing, I bought the first Matrix on dvd in Pismo Beach yesterday, so now I own a copy of every matrix movie except the Animatrix, on dvd. the only non dvd is Revolutions, which i got at Albertson's price on tape, like three bucks. after months of trying to cram pc parts into a mac LCIII case, i decided to create... dun dun dunnnnn... the iPaper tp server model 1.0.0. a few seconds ago, i beta tested it. relief ensued. a few bugs. not enough disk space for tp, adhesive fiddlybits all over, and snagging paper are all. and it's a little browned. Doom the movie. I origianally thought it would suck. now, I know it will not, at least sort of. The movie is in fact set on Mars, killing rumors of an earth desert or a distant galaxy. The Rock still is not the main marine, but hey, you can't have everything. a plot summary from the IMDB:"Something has gone wrong at a remote scientific research station on Mars. All research has ceased. Communication has failed. And the messages that do get through are less than comforting. It's a level 5 quarantine and the only souls allowed in or out are the Rapid Response Tactical Squad - hardened Space Marines armed to the teeth with enough firepower to neutralize the enemy... or so they think." now, if that dosen't sound cool like the game, I don't know what does. In other news, Halo the movie is also on IMDB and will be coming 2007. Alex Garland was paid 1,ooo,000 by Microsoft to write the now complete screenplay. Actors haven't been chosen yet, but Bungie fans all agree: NO VIN DEISEL FOR THE MASTER CHIEF!!!!!!!!!
